Making Local History Matter!
November's Meeting:
The speaker for our November meeting is Mary Helen Cissell. She is the author of “Living, Laughing, Loving in Old Lathemtown”. The book is a collection of oral histories of the Lathemtown, Free Home, and Orange, Georgia. This was an Orange United Methodist Women’s project and compiled by Ms. Cissell. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the stories of our neighbors as told in their own words. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
October's Update:
Thank you, Stan and Ken Norwood for the wonderful story and video of the “Norwood Baskets since 1944”. Ken related the early history of how his father and Stan’s grandfather came to Forsyth County and established the factory. Stan told of his father taking over the business after his grandfather died. Stan worked in the factory for many years with his father, and Ken worked part-time after school in the factory. Stan narrated the video and his wife made the video of the basket making process. Stan brought samples of the baskets which were made in the factory and they brought back memories of the many purchases which members had made. It was a very informative presentation and everyone enjoyed the Norwood family being present. Again, we thank the Norwood Family for their work in the community and their presentation.
